HouKreative Homestead: Tx, United States; I have 3 wonderful children, M(15), E(11), and S(5). Yes I realize the first letter of their names spell mess. I have been married to a wonderful husband, and father (J). We live in Texas. I started prepping/homestead years ago. J's job has him work for the majority of the year but he does have down period where there is no work (a layoff). As you can imagine it took one year for me to realize that I need to be the ant and not the grasshopper if I was going to keep the family fed. I have always couponed to save money, but deciding to store food for lean times kicked it up a bit. I bought a deep freeze and stock that and the pantry to the brim. It has served. Last year S was diagnosed type 1 (juvenile) diabetic. That is when I realized, POWER! We would be in trouble if we lost power because her insulin has to be cooled. Well, that has brought me into full prepping and homesteading.
